Fatal smash south of Grafton

EMERGENCY services have confirmed one person has died in a smash on the Pacific Highway south of Grafton.

The Westpac Life Saver Rescue helicopter was tasked to this morning’s scene near the Wooli turnoff, where a truck and four-wheel-drive towing a caravan collided.

“One person is deceased and a female patient with chest injuries is being transported to Coffs Harbour hospital,” a helicopter spokeswoman said.

“No further details are available at this time.”

The highway remains closed in both directions and the RTA advises motorists to steer clear of the area.

Further south, the southbound lanes of the highway at Kundabung are closed due to a car accident.

Emergency crews racing to smash

Emergency crews are racing to the scene of a head-on smash on the Pacific Highway south of Grafton.

Police have fielded several calls from witnesses at the scene who report a 4WD towing a caravan is involved in a head-on smash with a truck.

It is understood two people are trapped and another has been released.

The accident happened about 11am at Glenugie.
