12-year-old the latest victim on horror highway
A 12-YEAR-OLD boy is dead and five other people were treated for injuries following a horror head-on crash on the Pacific Highway at Tyndale.
The crash happened at a notorious site for serious accidents, near the Sheehys Lane intersection.
Local residents and emergency services found a devastating scene when they responded to the crash shortly after 4pm Wednesday.
One vehicle, a grey van, was left lying on its side and the highway was blocked in both directions.
The 12-year-old boy was taken to Grafton Hospital, however, he died a short time later.
The driver of the vehicle in which the boy was a passenger and three other occupants, including two children, were all take to Grafton Hospital with various, non-life threatening injuries.
The only occupant of the second vehicle was also taken to Grafton Hospital suffering leg injuries.
Officers from Coffs/Clarence Local Area Command and the Crash Investigation Unit are investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash.
Witnesses are urged to come forward and contact Crime Stoppers.
The highway was reopened about 8pm Wednesday, after traffic had been diverted around the accident scene for about four hours.
The two cars involved in the collision have been removed from the scene.
