Acid spill sparks emergency

A HYDROCHLORIC acid spill sparked an emergency response in Coffs Harbour this afternoon.

Fire crews were called to the Palms Centre car park at 2.30pm when about 100ml leaked from a container on the back of a ute, piercing a small hole in the aluminium tray.

Hazardous materials specialists diluted the acid to make the area safe.

Further south and around the same time, Macksville firefighters cleaned up 90 litres of milk which spilt onto the highway about 1km south of the town.

The spill at a truck stop is thought to have come from a tanker.
