11-year-old girl shot in the face, airlifted to hospital

AN 11-year-old girl has been shot in the face at Deloraine, in Tasmania's North.

Police and ambulance crews were called to the scene just after 9pm last night after the shooting.

The girl was taken to the Launceston General Hospital has been flown to Melbourne for further treatment. Her condition is serious.

A male is in custody and assisting police with their inquiries. The shooting is being investigated by Launceston CIB, led by Detective Inspector John King.

Meanwhile, northern police are also investigating a stabbing at Kings Meadows in Launceston.

An adult male was stabbed in the chest and police are hunting for the offender. The victim is in a stable condition.

Police said the incidents were unrelated.
