Two dead as Brazil overpass collapses on bus

THE overpass that collapsed, falling onto trucks and a bus below in the World Cup host city of Belo Horizonte in Brazil has left two dead and 19 injured, according to reports.

A spokeswoman for the local health department has confirmed the numbers to reporters.

The cause of the catastrophic failure of the overpass is still not clear.

The bridge was part of a network of bus lanes that Brazil failed to have ready in time for the World Cup.

A woman on a bus at the time of the collapse told GloboNews TV she feared more people would be trapped under the debris.

"We were traveling normally and then there was a terrible noise," Renata Soares said.

"I am sure that more people in other cars were underneath the debris."

Early reports from the scene speculated there was at least one fatality with another 10 injured.
