Boy, 17, charged after snatching bag from 80-year-old

A 17-year-old boy has been charged after stealing a bag from an 80-year-old fell victim in Goonellabah on Saturday morning.

Police allege around 11.30am the elderly victim was walking through the car park of a club on Oliver Avenue when the young person grabbed her handbag and ran off.

The victim gave chase but soon lost sight of him.

Police were called and attended the club where they retraced the offender's steps.

This led police to a known address where they made some enquiries with the occupant.

While speaking with the occupant a young male walked up the driveway.

Police interviewed this young man and once the interview was completed they were taken to a location where they retrieved the victim's handbag and the majority of her property and cash was recovered and returned.

The young person has been charged with Steal From Person.
