Bowraville sneaks into final

GRADE 5 sectional winners Bellingen and Bowraville will be chasing the Mid North Coast men’s bowls District pennant when they clash at North Beach on Saturday, April 30.

Bellingen won its section by 2.5 points from Woolgoolga while organisers had to go to the calculators before Bowraville was declared winner of its section.

Bowraville edged out Macksville by .03 on percentages.

The Grade 7 season has been finalised and congratulations goes to District champion Nambucca which will line up in the Zone 14 final for a chance to play in the State pennants later this year.

Sawtell took a giant step towards sealing the Grade 2 pennant when it defeated nearest rival Park Beach (2) on Saturday.

Park Beach (2) won two of the three rinks only to be beaten by six shots on the master board and with three rounds remaining Sawtell now holds a handy six-point buffer.

Park Beach (1) continued on its march to another District flag with a 5-1 win over Urunga while West Coffs was too strong for Coffs Ex-Services winning 6-0.

Nambucca Heads looks to have the Grade 3 District pennant sewn up, leading by 8.5 points with one round remaining after a 6-0 whitewash of Sawtell. In the other Grade 3 match, Woolgoolga defeated West Coffs 5.5-.5.

Sawtell has taken a handy lead in the battle for the Grade 4 pennant after downing second-placed Nambucca Heads 5.5-0.5 while Woolgoolga took advantage of Nambucca’s slip-up to move into second place with a 6-0 drubbing of Urunga.

In Grade 6 Coffs Ex-Servicesremains in command with a six-point advantage over West Coffs with three games to play. Coffs Ex-Services was a 5-1 winner over Sawtell and West Coffs enjoyed victory over North Beach by a similar margin.

In District Open Pairs, the quarter and semi-finals will be played at Woolgoolga on Sunday.
