Bowled over by his bust

FORMER Australian cricket captain Adam Gilchrist will be keeping an eye on the comings and goings in Bellingen's Maam Gaduying Park.

The legendary wicketkeeper was in the town on Saturday to unveil a bust of himself which was commissioned to celebrate his brief innings in Bellingen.

Gilchrist was born at the local hospital and spent the early days of his life in Dorrigo.

The Bellingen Shire Council commissioned the sculpture to acknowledge the connection and to recognise the manner and spirit in which he played the game.

The unveiling coincided with registration for the coming season and gave young cricketers from the Bellingen, Dorrigo and Urunga clubs a chance to meet their hero.
