Boot camp for small business
THE first day of next month is significant for two reasons: the start of spring and the beginning of Small Business September.
Now in its 12th year, this year's focus is on businesses in their growth phase, with hundreds of seminars, workshops and webinars designed specifically for small business owners to update their skills and knowledge.
Julie Scott, director of small business programming with Trade and Investment NSW, said in addition to local events, businesses could go online to hear experts in their respective fields.
“There are 650,000 small businesses in NSW and the feedback we get is they feel they don't have the proper education and training and capacity to build their businesses,” she said.
“We have put together a series of events so they can learn from each other and from experts and learn how to improve how their business operates.”
A State Government initiative, the month is co-ordinated by Trade and Investment NSW and sponsored by Telstra Business, Westpac, City of Sydney, Netregistry, Dynamic Business and Cumberland Newspapers.
Ms Scott said there was a wide breadth of training events including e-commerce, marketing, finance and cashflow management.
She said there would also be a particular focus on exporters who were currently doing it tough due to the high Australian dollar.
