Bookies call a tight race for local seats

ELECTION day is upon us, with Australians casting their vote to determine the 44th Federal Parliament.

The polls and the bookmakers are predicting two clear frontrunners in the contest for the Cowper and Page electorates.

In Cowper, independent candidate Rob Oakeshott threatens to unseat Nationals member Luke Hartsuyker, who has ensured a Nationals stronghold for 15 years.

Sportsbet.com.au has Mr Hartsuyker in front with bets at $1.50, followed closely by Mr Oakeshott on $2.50.

Labor candidate Damian Wood is third at $34 and the other candidates follow with exponential odds exceeding $100.

Similarly, the bellweather seat of Page has its Nationals member Kevin Hogan and Labor candidate Janelle Saffin neck-and-neck.
