Headpieces in, fascinators out this Melbourne Cup
BOLD colours, prints and headpieces are all the rage this Melbourne Cup.
Yes, headpieces - the "fascinator" is out this racing cup season as headpieces of all shapes, colours and sizes make their way onto the field.
The Olive Branch official afterparty event organiser Samantha Heathwood said Melbourne Cup was an opportunity to go crazy and express yourself.
Keep in mind, however, the style this year was all about a return to classic sophistication and old-world glamour.
"You have to dress to the event you're going to.
"This year the style is more classic and conservative.
"Flemington Raceway has lengthened the levels of hems," Mrs Heathwood said.
"They want to bring back the glamour to the races - you're not going to a nightclub."
She shared a few of her hottest tips for picking a winning outfit.
"Wear shoes you've worn before and don't take your shoes off - hang in there.
"White is very big this year, as are florals, prints and contrasting colours. You can do tiny cutouts and two pieces, they're great for those on a budget.
Oriri boutique owner Jade Scheuerle said to take an interest in the trends but most importantly, dress to your body shape and choose outfits that are flattering.
"Always go with what suits you and keep it classy."
