Boambee Beach car fire leads to arrest

POLICE have charged a man in relation to a vehicle that was destroyed by fire at Boambee Beach earlier this year.

About 9.50pm on Thursday, May 14, a 2010 Mitsubishi Triton was located engulfed in flames at the southern end of Boambee Beach.

Police from Coffs/Clarence Local Area Command commenced an investigation into a report the vehicle had been stolen from the owner during an alleged break, enter and steal.

Officers formed Strike Force Lapra and continued with the investigation after a 16-year-old relative of the alleged victim, claimed to police that he had stolen and set fire to the vehicle.

On Thursday a 24-year-old man was arrested at his home in Toormina and conveyed to Coffs Harbour Police Station.

The man was later charged with dishonestly damage property by fire; recruit child to carry out/assist criminal activity; and act to pervert the course of justice.

The man appeared at Coffs Harbour Local Court on Friday and was refused bail to face the same court on Wednesday.

The investigation continues.
