Blood donors take a holiday

COFFS Harbour’s Red Cross Blood Service is seeking more donors to help the service cope with the problems caused by the summer holiday season.

The Coffs Harbour Donor Centre’s retail marketing manager Kirstie Lee said this week they were down a great deal on regular appointments.

“We are down a good 50 donors.” she said.

“Essentially it is due to people re-bookings appointments.

“In December and January bookings are really low and that causes us problems three to four months down the line with both appointments and inventory – with the amount of blood we can supply to patients in need.

Ms Lee said they also wanted regular donors to convert to plasma donation.

“We are always looking for donors, especially in the lead up to Easter and public holidays.”

Coffs Harbour Blood Donor Centre is located at 72 Victoria Street and can be contacted on 6650 9644 to make an appointment to register as a donor and give blood. To find out more, go to www.donateblood.com.au and take a quiz to find if you are eligible to donate.
