Blood centre moves to new premises

COFFS Harbour Blood Donor Centre will be the first in NSW to open six days a week Monday to Saturday from January 8.

The centre will re-open in new premises at HomeBase, near the cafe, on Monday.

Blood Donor Centre community relations officer Carrie Skinner said this was an extraordinary achievement for a regional centre.

“Coffs Harbour has supported blood donation very well.” Ms Skinner said.

“When we introduced plasma donation 12 months ago the donations here were better than any other centre and at the new centre we will go from one to three plasma beds an hour.

“The need for plasma is expected to double in the next decade.”

“In January Coffs Harbour needs 750 donations and we have 470 booked in, so we need another 280 eligible donors.

“We need blood donors on Thursday and Friday before Christmas and before New Year and for the first week in January.

“We are open on Monday, December 27, from 10am to 2pm and on Monday, January 3, both public holidays and we are desperate for donations on those days.”

The new centre can be contacted on 6653 0600 and appointments can be booked on 131 495.
