IMAGINIE waking up to the sound of waves crashing against the pebbly shoreline.

You step outside and look behind you at the snowy mountain peaks that line the horizon.

We were in Kaikoura in New Zealand's South Island - where the snow meets the sea.

We were on a two week motor home holiday in the South Island where we were going against all stereotypes that motor-home holidays were just for reckless grey nomads spending their kid's inheritance.

We were four 20-something girls let loose on Kiwi roads, trying to navigate windy roads and how to deal with portable toilets.

We gorged on Fergburger in Queenstown, cruised down Milford Sound and camped by glacial rivers.

We swam with wild dolphins, pretended we understood the different palates of wine and ate pancakes at Pancake Rocks.

Leaving the van for the day, we took a helicopter up to the snowy peaks that surround Queenstown and had a high altitude snowball fight.

Of all the incredible things we did during that two weeks driving through NZ's South Island, it was the freedom of where we could stay that was the highlight.

There are not too many places you can wake up by the beach with snowy mountains behind you.

There were no crowds, no high rise buildings.

Just the best of what New Zealand had to offer!
