Bloc Party, Birds of Tokyo on the bill for Falls Fest

IF YOU'RE still reminiscing about your favourite acts from Splendour in the Grass and pining for more live music, Falls and Southbound Festival organisers have just given you something to be excited about.

The first lineup announcement for the festival was announced this morning, with the likes of British indie rock band Bloc Party, Perth alternative rock band Birds of Tokyo and Adelaide hip hop group Hilltop Hoods gracing the list.

Bloc Party frontman Kele Okereke was in Australia in March for a string of solo shows.

Kele said he was excited to bring the band back, several years since their last show down under.

"I'm feeling super excited about playing Falls Festival," Kele said.

Kele has released two albums as a solo performer, but being the frontman of Bloc Party is still a major part of his life.
"It's a super important thing for me," he said.

"I'm super excited about this next phase for us.

"It's always exciting when you're working on a record and trying to work out how to perform it live to people."

While they're still in the process of putting together the new record, Kele said they would definitely be performing some of the newest Bloc Party material at Falls.

"I'm mostly looking forward to getting in front of an Australian audience," he said.

"Australian audiences are the wildest. They're super crazy but personally I've always enjoyed paying to Australian audiences.

"I feel they give the most of any audience. As a performer you respond to what the audience gives you."

Kele said he was keen to see some of the acts on the lineup, too, such as Aussie talent Courtney Barnett.

"She's someone who I first heard in Australia and it's great to see she's there. I look forward to seeing her."

Falls Festival will take place at Lorne in Victoria from December 28 to January 1, Marion Bay in Tasmania from December 29 to January 1 and North Byron Parklands from December 31 to January 3.

Southbound Festival will run from January 8-10.
