Bill's years of service gets him Sawtell's top honour
DECADES of service in the community, particularly with the Surf Life Saving Club has seen Bill Singleton named as the Sawtellian of the Year.
A large crowd at today's Sawtell Fun Day cheered heartily when it was announced the 83 year-old was receiving the prestigious annual award.
Mr Singleton first gained his bronze medallion back in 1949 and for many years dedicated so many hours, when he wasn't busy with the banana plantation and small crops and cattle farm at Crossmaglen, to serving the Sawtell SLSC.
Even today, Bill still attends surf club meetings and every summer is a regular on the beach - always mindful to swim between the flags.
