Me and My Ride: Redline BMX does the job

NICK Hall doesn't own his ideal BMX bike, but then again, the Yess bike he wants is the most expensive he has ever heard of.

Instead, Nick is extremely happy with the Redline he rides. It is similar to the bike he began on two years ago, only an upgrade in a number of ways.

"This has better forks, smoother wheels and hubs and a really nice change," he said.

The Redline has made a difference to his riding over the past year, his results steadily improving as he gets more conditioned to the bike.

Nick's hope is that it can take him even further in the future.

"I have had a couple of central Queensland plates and I made the semi-finals for Queensland," he said.

The biggest difference made for the 10-year-old is not in the mechanics or weight of the bike.

He believes it is a mental gain. It was not instant but has grown over time.

"It means I know my bike and I know it is better and then I do well because of that," he said.

"The biggest part is in competitions - I didn't get the confidence at training."

Nick got into the sport through watching his cousins compete, and when he was first given his race number, it didn't mean much to him.

Now though, he is not only proud of his bike and ability, but his 108 as well.

"Mum wanted something with eight in it because that is the age I started at," he said.
