Mountain Bike action is back on in Mackay

MOUNTAIN BIKING: Mackay riders are set to begin their year en route to the state titles with their first race this weekend.

The Mackay and District Mountain Biking Club (MDMBC) is hosting its first race as part of a two-race teaser series.

"This is the chance for riders to dust off the cobwebs," MDMBC president Steve Elvy said.

"We are getting our track ready for state titles later in the year.

"So this will give our riders a chance to get a preview for the state titles."

The race will run for one hour and will feature junior and senior riders.

"The junior category consists of riders between ages 13-17 and seniors are riders aged 18-plus," Elvy said.

"Basically, the person who gets the most laps in wins on the day."

The Mountain Biking State Titles will be held at the club's Rowallan Park track on October 2.

"It will be a 6.5km track used for the event on the day for the riders," Elvy said.

Elvy is hoping the number of riders will be between 150-200 enthusiasts taking part in the event.
