Big swells for juniors

MONSTER swells may impact this weekend's start of the NSW Surfing Junior Regional Titles to be held in Coffs Harbour.

However, with winds predicted to ease slightly, manageable surf may be on the cards.

Local surfing identity Lee Winkler said he was expecting a tough competition and the weather would play a part in who won.

"It's not ideal with all the wind and rain around, but it should be good coming into the weekend. Apparently the rain will pass, which might make it good for the weekend," he said.

"A few guys to look out for are Coffs local Braydon Templeton in the under-18s, Carly Shanahan in the under-14s and Robbie Pugh from Cresent Heads.

"These guys have a good chance and have been in great form coming into the event," Winkler said.

It will be a good opportunity to impress the judges, as the finalists of the regional titles progress through to the NSW junior state finals.

Coffs Harbour Boardriders is hosting the event and will meet at Park Beach at 7am.
