Big bargains coming up at Vinnies in M'boro

ST VINCENT de Paul Society in Maryborough is gearing up for the National Op Shop Week by selling a heap of stuff at bargain prices.

St Vincent de Paul Society manager Lisa Baker said the op shop will have a winter sale from Sunday, August 24 until the following Monday, September 1.

"National Op Shop Week is used to promote charities like ours that provide for our community and to help boost donations and encourage volunteers," Mrs Baker said. "We sell everything from clothing to furniture to bric a brac."

The centre has 40 volunteers and is looking for more, especially during National Op Shop Week.

"The volunteers get great personal satisfaction and a feeling of self-worth by volunteering and they enjoy the friendships and camaraderie they get out of their time here," Mrs Baker said.

St Vincent de Paul Society was formed in 1929 and provides a range of low cost items for people stretching their funds. The sales raise much needed funds to assist people in need.

The 2014 National Op Shop Week will be held across Australia on August 24 through until August 31.

The week raises awareness of the important role op shops play in communities.
