Big Banana goes pink for breast cancer awareness

HAVE you ever seen a pink banana? If not, you soon will.

The Big Banana is turning pink this month, all in the name of breast cancer awareness.

Yesterday marked the beginning of National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and Coffs Harbour's biggest icon is getting into the spirit, lighting up pink every night this month in a bid to join the fight against breast cancer.

President of the breast cancer survivor group the Titivators Maureen Shaw said it was great the Big Banana was jumping on the bandwagon.

“I contacted the Big Banana, and they were more than happy to be a part of this,” she said.

“It's all about raising awareness for early detection.”

Newly-elected councillor and breast cancer survivor Denise Knight was on hand last night at an official opening to support the cause, along with the Titivators.
