Benny goes bananas for weekend festival

It's a slippery job - but Benny the Banana is all set for smoothie sailing when he makes his debut at the Big Banana's Banana Fest this weekend.

The 46-year-old banana (who, coincidentally, is the same age as the Big Banana itself) has been practising his dance moves and warming up his wave in anticipation of the big event

“Benny's always been a character of the Big Banana, but we decided the amount of promotional events we're involved in this year, we decided we needed a mascot,” marketing manager Aaron Newnham said.

And so when the Banana Fest kicks off from 9.30am this Saturday, Benny will be ready.

In fact, Mr Newnham hinted that visitors may even catch a glimpse of Benny hanging out of a helicopter during the day.

So why not check out the Banana Fest this Saturday - entry is free and there'll be plenty of entertainment and food throughout the day, as well as a huge array of fun activities.

“It's a community-spirited event,” Mr Newnham said.
