Auction to benefit a little battler

THOUSANDS of dollars worth of goods will go under the hammer tonight to help a little Coffs battler. Matthew Jones was born on December 13 after a traumatic birth that has left him permanently brain damaged.

Matthew's mum, Samantha Jones, suffered a ruptured uterus during the labour, causing an emergency caesarean section to be carried out. Matthew was born, although he had gone 14 minutes without oxygen.

He was born with no sign of life but he was successfully resuscitated before he began breathing on his own.

While Samantha underwent life-saving surgery in Coffs Harbour and remained on life support, Matthew and his dad David were flown to Sydney's Prince of Wales Hospital.

Samantha has recovered well, but the young couple are faced with caring for two small children, one who requires 24-hour care with expensive specialised equipment.

“I'm tired and stressed,” Samantha said while cuddling Matthew at their home, as Matthew's older sister two-year-old sister Alicia watches a princess show on the TV.
