Bello gets boost with opening of new acute care unit
HEALTH services at Bellingen Hospital have been boosted with this week's opening of a $5.3 million acute care unit.
The new unit provides 14 sub-acute bed units on the first floor, including six palliative care and eight rehabilitation beds. A gymnasium, dining area and training kitchen have also been incorporated into expansion.
There is also accommodation for staff delivering community, mental health and allied health services.
Cowper MP Luke Hartsuyker said the Federal Government invested $4.5 million in the upgrade.
"The palliative care beds in the new unit are the only designated palliative care beds in the Coffs Clinical Network, and are aimed at improving the quality of life for local people in need of this level of medical care and support," he said.
"These new facilities have been tailored to meet the needs of the community, which will benefit from such services in the years to come," he said.
"As a result of this upgrade, Bellingen Hospital will play an important role in the delivery of quality health services in our region for many years to come."
