Bellingen Public Arts Plan build reputation for creativity

BELLINGEN Council's arts and cultural advisory committee has developed a Draft Public Art Plan which provides an overview of the concepts developed in the shire.

The plan explores creative themes, town specific concepts and proposed artwork locations for Bellingen, Dorrigo and Urunga.

It will include concepts such as town markers of interpretative art signage, street art, art seating, art walls, pavement inlays, banner art, pop-up shops and arts-based geo caching.

Mayor Mark Troy said it also includes recommendations for implementation, procurement and commissioning as well as suggestions for partnering and funding opportunities.

"The plan will provide the framework for establishing a range of public art projects in the main towns and surrounding areas which will reflect and celebrate all that is beautiful and unique," he said.

"Having a plan is a significant enabler in terms of funding."

This Public Art Plan can be accessed on bellingen.nsw.gov.au or a hard copy can be viewed at the Bellingen administration centre during office hours as well as the Dorrigo, Bellingen and Urunga libraries during normal opening hours.

Council is actively seeking feedback from the community during the engagement period ending on Wednesday, July 9.
