
Bears shine in inaugural Emilee Cherry Cup win
TOOWOOMBA Bears flew the flag for city-based clubs in this years' Downs Rugby competitions with an emphatic victory in the inaugural Emilee Cherry Cup.
Bears outshone fellow city club USQ 41-0 in the 2018 grand final at Clive Berghofer Stadium after having led 26-0 at half-time.
Bears' seven-try effort was led by player of the match Jordanan Ackland and Penny Dukes who both crossed for two tries each.
Cassie Carberry, Paige Armstrong and Anna Johnston also helped themselves to tries in a slick, classy display from the Bears.
USQ earlier in the day won through to the decider with a thrilling 24-19 victory over the Condamine Codettess in extra time after the teams were deadlocked at full-time after being 7-all at half-time.
