Bears make it four straight with late Uni win
TOOWOOMBA Bears maintained their bright opening to the 2016 Risdon Cup competition while USQ's frustrating season start continued yesterday when the two teams battled out a round-five cliffhanger at USQ Oval.
Bears snatched victory from Saints in the closing minutes of play to win 25-24.
The win is Bears' fourth in succession and sees them move into second place on the competition table behind undefeated Goondiwindi
The defeat leaves USQ on one season win and out of the top five after UQ Gatton posted a win on yesterday to leapfrog Saints on the ladder.
Bears were first on the scoreboard on Saturday through a penalty goal but Uni hit back with a converted try soon after to lead 7-3.
Saints held on to their lead throughout before a Bears kick ahead in the shadows of full-time led to their match-winning try.
Goondiwindi continued its dominant season start with a 35-14 win over fourth-placed Condamine at Riddles Oval.
UQ Gatton scored its second win of the year after accounting for Toowoomba Rangers 23-19 at Gatton.
Rangers remain on just one premiership win and face a hungry Saints line-up at USQ Oval on Saturday.
Roma notched its first victory for 2016 with a 38-15 victory over St George at Gallas Fox Park.
