Be prepared for bushfires

THIS weekend is 'get ready weekend' where the New South Wales Rural Fire Service is urging everyone to get prepared for bushfire season.

There will be a DIY workshop at Bunnings Warehouse Grafton on Saturday and Sunday from 12.30pm.

The workshops will offer helpful advice on how to properly prepare and manage your home in the event of a fire.

NSW RFS Commissioner Shane Fitzsimmons said the Service's annual Get Ready Weekend was the ideal opportunity for families to meet the volunteers who protect their local community, and learn how to be better prepared in the event of a bush fire.

"Preparing for bush fires can be easier than people think. This weekend people should take a few simple steps around the home to reduce their fire risk and talk with their family to decide what they would do if a bush fire was to start near them," Commissioner Fitzsimmons said.
