Battle goes to the Villains

THE battle for top spot on the Mens’ Division 1 ladder last Friday night showed the strong depth within Southside with a number of Division 2 players stepping up due to the higher than normal absences of top players.

The Chris Shipman lead Heroes were unlucky going down to Villains in a close match.

James Bellamy scored a double for the victors while Chris Shipman did likewise for the Heroes.

The game was entertaining.

Goals to Scott Mackenzie and Sam Broomfield helped Northern Beaches overcome Urunga.

There are no Division 1 men’s matches tonight, although catch up games will be played on Monday night.

At 6.15pm Southside Villains need a win to stay on top against Northern Beaches Seahorses.

If both teams are near full strength Villains may be too good.

At 7.30pm Southside Heroes are expected to be too strong for Urunga Thunda who will have a number of players backing up from the Over 40s Vets State Championships.

Sapphires shine

THE Division 3 women last weekend saw Southside Sapphires and Bellingen winning.

Southside should be too strong for Orara while Legendz may have too many guns for Urunga Blue Fins.

Sawtell back in form

IN Div 2 men, last week saw Sawtell return to form with a 4-3 win over Northern Beaches IGA Squids.

Southside Huntsmen defeated Dolphins for the second time in a few days and as expected Northern Beaches Starfish was too strong for Urunga Storm winning 3-1.

Northern Beaches Starfish are competition leaders at this stage.

This weekend a number of teams will have players away at State Championships so the games could go any way.

In the match of the round Northern Beaches Starfish may be too strong for Southside Huntsmen.

Northern Beaches IGA Squids will defeat Urunga Storm. Southside Dolphins may just get the points over Sawtell

Jewels cause upset

WOMEN’S Division 1 matches last weekend saw Urunga and Bellingen fight out a 1-all draw while Southside Jewels upset Orara Emus who had key players out.

This weekend Orara are expected to be too strong for Bellingen. Southside may have enough to get over Urunga

Taylors and Tigers to do battle

THE women’s Division 2 clash of the round will be Urunga Taylors and Norths Tigers.

Tigers are my tip.

Bellingen may be too strong for Urunga Oceans while Legendz will get the points over Northern Beaches.

Low on numbers

IN Grafton Men’s A Grade, Southside Coffs Harbour will have a much depleted team this Sunday when they clash with Grafton Royals in Grafton at 3.30pm.

Chris Shipman will lead the team which will need great games from the Anderson brothers, Alford brothers and Kieren Marshall at centre half. Royals are always hard to beat and if Southside win on Sunday expect them to go all the way in 2010.
