Bass on the bite around Borumba Dam
GOTCHA: Choppy to rough conditions are expected today with the change (forecast for Friday at this stage), with west to north-westerly 15-20 knots shifting south-westerly early morning then tending to southerly 20-30 knots mid-morning, with seas getting up there from 1-1.5m, increasing to 1.5-2.5m during the morning.
The weekend's conditions will be choppy tomorrow and easing back a little on Sunday and Monday.
On the fishing scene, there has been good catches on all local reefs.
North Reef has had moses perch, grass sweetlip, hussar and cod while moses perch, tusk fish, coral trout and maori cod are on the bite from Sunshine Reef.
Out from Hervey Bay the southern and northern gutter have had the odd coral trout, red emperor, mangrove jack, cod, sweetlip, tusk fish and nannygai.
Snapper, trevally tusk fish and coral trout are still on the bite from Roy Rufus.
There is school mackerel, long tail tuna and golden trevally in the deeper parts of Platypus Bay around the bait schools.
While jew, threadfin salmon and the odd barra can be found from the rocky outcrops, ledges and holes in the straights.
Double Island Point's closer reefs have had pearl perch and cobia, while there is tusk fish, nannygai, pearl perch, good snapper, hussar, moses perch, sweetlip, spangled emperor red emperor, long tail tuna and some big cod about 20NM north-east of Wide Bay Bar.
Estuaries, dams and beaches
FRASER Island: Dart, whiting, trevally, bream, dart and a few spanish mackerel and chopper tailor in the gutters. Please remember, that the annual closed waters area runs between Indian Head and Waddy point from August 1-September 30 every year. So, during the closure period, all fishing is prohibited from the foreshore within this area from 400m south of Indian Head to 400m north of Waddy Point and continues 400m out to sea from the low tide mark.
Hervey Bay: Flathead and bream out from Urangan Pier. Long tail tuna from Urangan Pier. Squid around Picnic Island the rock ledges and weed beds. Summer whiting between Shelly Beach and Urangan. Grunter, threadfin salmon, jew and jacks in Burrum and Mary River.
Rainbow Beach: Tailor, rat king fish, bream and snapper off the rocks at Double Island Point. Spotty mackerel and long tail tuna from the barge crossing channel. Tailor, bream, flathead and dart along the beaches and Inskip Point. Tailor from Middle Rock. Flathead between rainbow and double Island Point. A few flathead and bream from Carlo Point. Barramundi, jack and cod in Kauri Creek.
LAKE McDonald has had good schooling bass in the northern facing bays along with bass and saratoga in the timbers on surface lures.
In Borumba Dam yellowbelly are taking lure and bait in the timbers.
With the odd saratoga and plenty of bass on surface lures, there are also quality bass to be found in the timbers as well.
The Mary River has seen bass and golden perch in its tributaries while down in Noosa, chopper tailor, whiting and flathead along Teewah stretch have been reported.
Bream and whiting between Castaways and Sunrise beaches are on the bite, with flathead, whiting and bream in good numbers at the river mouth.
There have been reports of some big flathead and golden trevally in Woods Bays with bream, trevally and jacks from behind the Sheraton.
