Bashed man is airlifted to Sydney

POLICE are investigating the serious assault of a 26-year-old Coffs Harbour man at Park Beach just after midnight on Saturday night.

Five men assaulted the man at the intersection of Ocean Parade and Fitzgerald Street.

A witness told police he saw the man's head hit the road hard after he was pushed to the ground and kicked. The man sustained serious head injuries including facial injuries and a burst ear drum.

Witnesses treated him at the scene until ambulance and police officers arrived.

He was taken to Coffs Harbour Hospital and then flown to Sydney's Royal North Shore Hospital for further treatment. Police are asking anyone with information to contact them on 6652 0299 or phone Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
