Barry's now out and about

HE has been the smiling face behind the wheel of the No 8 bus for 10 years, but on Wednesday Barry Mannell drove his last school bus runs to Coramba and around the town.

The cheery bus driver for Busways, clutching a brightly wrapped gift box as he headed off from the Coffs Harbour Primary School bus interchange on his way to Coramba, said in retirement he would be doing ‘the usual things – fishing, travelling – and a bit of music’.

As a foundation member of the popular Tallowood Bush Band, which has been entertaining locals for 30 years, including 20 years at the Valla peer support camp for children, Mr Mannell is probably better known for his music than his driving.

He plays guitar, button accordion and harmonica.
