Bad boy Greg Bird breaks down at training

GREG Bird's bad-news week continued yesterday when the Titans star broke down at training on the Gold Coast.

While the club's five-man disciplinary committee was meeting to decide what action to take against the New South Wales' Origin star for urinating on a police car at Byron Bay last weekend, Bird injured his medial ligament in a tackle during an opposed training session under new coach Neil Henry.

A club spokesman told APN that although the injury was not considered "serious", Bird would undergo precautionary scans today or tomorrow.

"He twisted his knee in a tackle, but our club medical staff didn't seem overly concerned," the spokesman said.

Man mountain returns to training with North Queensland

HULKING young Kiwi international Jason Taumalolo has returned to training with North Queensland weeks ahead of schedule, as NRL clubs continue to jostle for his signature in 2016.

The Cowboys are hoping to retain the services of the 110kg, 190cm man mountain, who comes off contract at the end of next season.

He underlined his enormous potential when he made his Test debut for New Zealand against Australia in the recent Four Nations, smashing out almost 200m against the Kangaroos in the final.

The Sydney Roosters, who are looking to replace Sonny Bill Williams, have identified Taumalolo as their target signing.

Nine other clubs are reportedly keen to win the 21 year-old's signature.
