YOUNG ballerinas can now perfect their pirouettes at a new Ballet Babies class at the PCYC.

The new program is for children aged between two-and-a-half and four who would like to start learning ballet.

Instructor Sarah Brown has been teaching baby ballet for 15 years and said the class had been popular with young dancers.

"It introduces children to ballet in a fun and exciting way," she said.

"Children can wear whatever they like because it is a relaxed class.

"The dance moves are aimed at their level and it develops focus, concentration and imagination.

"I absolutely love children and I'm passionate about teaching the young ones ballet.

"They are introduced to different music that they may not listen to at home so it also helps develop their musicality."

Budding ballet dancers get introduced to classical basics such as first position with their feet, learning to walk on their toes and the difference between fast and slow music.

Gwen McCulkin takes her granddaughter Alexandra Crawley to the classes and she said it was a wonderful program.

"Alexandra loves to dance and we spend every Monday together so I thought it would be nice if I brought her along," she said.

"She is always dancing at home and I think this will be the start of fulfilling her dream of being a dancer."

Ballet Babies is held on Mondays from 10.30am - 11am at the PCYC.

Cost is $8 per lesson or $90 for the term
