Iggy Azalea’s six-week reign at top is new record

ACCOLADES keep coming for Mullumbimby-raised Iggy Azalea, with her smash hit Fancy featuring Charli XCX setting a new record for a number one for a female rapper on the Billboard top 100.

Last week Azalea, whose real name is Amethyst Kelly, rewrote the record books when Fancy eclipsed Lil Kim's 2001 hit, Lady Marmalade, spending six weeks on top of the charts.

While Fancy dominates hot 100 charts around the globe, Problem by Ariana Grande and featuring Iggy Azalea, has been a consistent performer.

This week Problem relegated Fancy to number two on the Billboard top 100, continuing Azalea's dominance of the American female rap scene.

The Billboard 100 records come after Azalea became the first foreign artist since the Beatles to have number one and two hits on the hot 100.

In the past 12 months, her number one hits have attracted the attention of music industry heavyweights.

She has inked a deal with record company Island Def Jam and signed a modelling contract.

J-Lo asked Azalea to make a guest appearance on her new album AKA, and Beyonce asked the rapper to join her tour.

In January, at the MTV EMA awards in Amsterdam Azalea performed a verse of Blurred Lines with Robin Thicke.
