Aussies go for experience in netball World Cup squad

NETBALL: Australian selectors have gone for experience in the coming World Cup, naming seven players from the victorious 2011 campaign in the 12-strong team.

Midcourters Kim Ravaillion, Paige Hadley and Renae Hallinan, goal shooter Caitlin Thwaites and defender Rebecca Bulley are the other members of the team.

Hadley was the surprise selection after being left out of the initial squad of 18.

Hallinan finally gets her chance to compete at a World Cup after missing selection in 2011. The 28-year-old has 57 Tests to her credit, the most by any Diamonds player who has not been part of a World Cup.

Coach Lisa Alexander said choosing the final 12 had been the most difficult selection process of her career.

"The selectors and I are confident this is the team to win the World Cup," she said. "The 12 athletes selected will bring great versatility, huge competitiveness and a capacity to keep improving as a team together. This is what will be required to compete at this World Cup which will be the most challenging tournament in history."

Australia's first game is against Trinidad and Tobago in Melbourne on August 7.

TEAM: NSW Swifts: Julie Corletto, Kimberlee Green, Paige Hadley, Sharni Layton, Caitlin Thwaites; Queensland Firebirds: Rebecca Bulley, Laura Geitz, Kim Ravaillion; Adelaide Thunderbirds: Erin Bell, Renae Hallinan; West Coast Fever: Caitlin Bassett, Natalie Medhurst.
