POET Laureate Les Murray will be among the celebrity guests featured in this year's prestigious Eutick Memorial Still Life Award (EMSLA) exhibition and Festival which opens at the Coffs Harbour Regional Gallery this Friday at 6pm.
Gallery Director/Curator Dr Leigh Summers said Mr Murray will be joined in the judging role by the founder of the prize and enduring gallery benefactor Dr Mal Eutick and gallery patron and controversial art critic for the Sydney Morning Herald, John MacDonald.
"Artists, musicians distinguished sponsors and our gorgeous audience will celebrate in style while waiting to hear which artist has won Australia's most esteemed still life competition," Dr Summers said
The opening of the EMLSA on Saturday Mr McDonald will lead a discussion at the gallery on Saturday about 'what's hot and what's not' in contemporary art.
Later on Saturday guest artists Steven Giblett and Jenni Catt will paint on site with both happy to talk to visitors as they revisit the EMSLA show.
There will also be live music from pianist William Jeffries.
On Saturday evening, lovers of opera and fine music will be delighted by Sydney-based soprano Jenny Lui and associate artist Michael Curtain, who will present a programme of the most beautiful works in the soprano repertoire.
Michael, an accomplished pianist in his own right will also perform some solo works. On Sunday, the Gallery will host a remarkable double bill with Les Murray reciting his own work with interludes of music performed by acclaimed cellist Sarah Matthews.
