Aussie actress Penne Hackforth-Jones has died

VETERAN Australian actress Penne Hackforth-Jones lost her battle with cancer on the weekend.

The US-born star first appeared on Australian television screens in the 70s and became a favourite in a host of popular-home-grown dramas, including A Country Practice and Mother and Son.

In more recent years she was a regular on All Saints and Dr Blake Mysteries.

She also wrote a well-read blog and published a biography on her great-grandmother.

Earlier this year, Hackforth-Jones was diagnosed with lung cancer.

She died on Saturday aged 64.
