Aunty has another crack at NYE fireworks show

THE hopes for an entire year rest on the final few hours of New Year's Eve.

It's a time of year when many are thinking about fresh beginnings and resolutions.

Others choose to reflect on the achievements and milestones of the past 12 months.

Painting the perfect backdrop to the evening, no matter what your style of your celebrations, are Sydney's world-famous fireworks.

The ABC brings all the action to your screen from outside the Sydney Opera House and inside the Lord Mayor's Party at Bennelong Point in Sydney Harbour.

Singer Ella Hooper returns to helm the bumper four-hour broadcast with a new co-host, journalist Jeremy Fernandez, in tow.

After copping criticism from viewers on social media last year, Aunty is out to impress this year with a line-up packed full of comedy, music and entertainment including the family fireworks display at 9pm, the annual comedy panel show The 2016 Pub Quiz and music live from Falls Festival in Lorne.

Q: Since Jeremy's a journalist, are you hoping to bring out his less serious side on Saturday night?

A: Yes, I believe that's my job. And if not I'll just provide the less seriousness myself. We'll divide and conquer.

Q: What did you learn from last year's broadcast, which copped a bit of criticism, that you'll use this year?

A: I'm just going to do my best with what I'm given just like I did last year. Critics gon' critique.

Q: The family spectacular was a big hit last year, what's in store for viewers this year?

A: I know that Jimmy Giggle and Hoot are set to host The Early Show under the direction of Play School's Jemima and Debra Jo from Little Lunch. They'll be visited by all sorts of fantastic guests, including The Wiggles, Justine from Play School and Dan Sultan - so we're in for a treat ahead of the family fireworks at 9pm.

Q: What songs would be on your perfect New Year's Eve soundtrack?

A: Prince's 1999, Debbie Harry's I Want That Man, Neil Young's Keep On Rockin in the Free World, Tom Petty's Free Fallin', The Band's Rag Mama Rag, The Beatles' Don't Let Me Down, David Bowie's Heroes, Angel Olsen's Unf*#% The World, Beyonce's Run the World, PJ Harvey's Good Fortune, Kraftwerk's We Are The Robots and Break Up Blonde by yours truly.

Q: Are you making any resolutions this year? If so what are they and if not, why not?

A: I always make them and then I always make the same ones .. again. More yoga, less coffee, get my licence, mend all of my poor busted clothes. Maybe this year's the year they stick. Maybe... or I'll just buy new clothes say "om sat nam" with a latte in hand!

The ABC's New Year's Eve 2016 show airs from 8.30pm on Saturday.
