WHEN Scott Hardcastle died in his sleep on January 14 he left behind a devastated wife, a young family - and a gap in Sawtell sport.

The 39-year-old, who could reasonably have expected to enjoy life for another 30 years, was a member of the Sawtell Golf Club; the cricket, board riders and hockey clubs. He also loved his local football and his Ford V8 racing teams.

This weekend, family, friends and the sporting community are rallying around Lisa Hardcastle and her children Tyler, 11, and Shaylee, eight.

One of the district's largest charity auctions will be held at 6.30pm tonight Sawtell Golf Club.

The evening will include an introduction and music by singer and actor Nick Hardcastle with more music by Locus Parentas and Errol Gray.

Nick Hardcastle was one of the stars of the stage musical Priscilla Queen of the Desert, in the role made famous by Guy Pearce in the movie.

Tonight's auction will see Mick Barnes manning the mike, a silent auction and raffles, with an astonishing variety of prizes and auction items.
