Attempted child abduction

POLICE are appealing for information following the attempted abduction of a girl at Bowraville. 

A nine-year-old girl had finished school and was walking along the High Street when the incident occurred on Wednesday about 3pm. 

Police have been told a silver sedan, possibly a Ford, with dark tinted windows pulled up alongside the girl and a man got out of the vehicle.

Police said the man rabbed the girl by the arm and attempted to drag her into the car.

She was able to pull free from his grasp before the man re-entered the car and drove away.

The girl reported the incident to her father and one of her friends.

Police were contacted and have commenced investigations into the incident.

Investigators are looking for a man who has been described as being of Aboriginal/Torres Strait Islander appearance, about 174cm or taller with facial stubble and wearing black clothing.

Police are in the process of obtaining and reviewing CCTV from local businesses in an attempt to identify the man.
