A COFFS Coast real estate agency has been recognised as one of the best in New South Wales.

Atkinsons Real Estate has been nominated for a Real Estate Institute of New South Wales (REINSW) Award for Excellence.

The agency was one of just five across NSW to be selected as finalists for the Real Estate Agency - Small category.

"I'm just incredibly proud of the whole team," Atkinsons managing director and principal Martin Wells said.

The achievement is even more significant when you consider Mr Wells purchased the business just three years ago.

"Since then I have invested heavily into our team, industry-leading technology, advertising strategy, and systems and procedures that lead to better efficiencies and exposure," Mr Wells said.

"This means that our team can focus on our clients, customers, and achieving outstanding results for them."

The team spans residential and commercial sales plus residential and commercial property management and holiday letting.

"Our success is a direct result of the dedication and tireless work that our entire team puts in," Mr Wells said.

"I couldn't be prouder of them and know that each and every property we are entrusted with is in great hands, and that the best possible outcomes and results will be achieved for our valued clients."

Mr Wells also credits his previous career with helping develop sales strategies that are working for his business.

"I came from a background of 15 years as a paramedic where you spend a lot of time just talking and listening to people," he said.

"I think that's the secret; you need to listen to what customers want and deliver based on that, instead of giving them what you think they want."

The winners of the 2014 REINSW Awards for Excellence will be presented at a gala dinner in Sydney on October 2.

The Small Agency Award takes into account an agency's business performance during the past year, year-on-year improvement, growth and outstanding sales results, its service to clients and the professional development of staff.

"(This) is the highest accolade that you can receive in real estate in New South Wales," REINSW president Malcolm Gunning said.

"The expanded awards program, with 21 categories in 2014, cements the finalists as industry leaders who are showing the way in an era of innovation."
