Armed gang in violent break-in

POLICE are hunting a gang of eight men who forced their way into a South Kempsey motel on Tuesday night and assaulted two men.

The incident happened on the Pacific Highway at 11pm.

A family of five, including a four-year-old girl, were asleep in their private residence when they were awoken by the men, who were armed with sticks and a rifle.

The invaders struggled with two of the occupants, two men aged 72 and 25.

The older man suffered facial and arm injuries before he was dragged to safety.

The intruders fled with cash, jewellery and alcohol.

The men are described as Aboriginal/Torres Strait Islander in appearance, aged in their late teens to early 20s. Anyone with information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
