Youngsters to turn out for North Coast team

TWO young Coffs Coast cricketers will be vying for Northern NSW Country selection this weekend in Armidale.

Joe Willman (Diggers) and Nathan O'Connor (Sawtell) have been rewarded for outstanding starts to the summer with selection in the North Coast zone side, which will play Central Western zone in a one day match on Sunday.

Joe, who has only just turned 13, will be one of the younger members of the side.

But according to Diggers president Tim Hedditch, he will handle it easily.

"Joe would be one of the best players we have seen coming through the club in the last eight years," Hedditch said.

"His batting technique is first-rate, he is a handy spin bowler and an excellent fieldsman.

Nathan, on the other hand, is a tearaway quick bowler, who has risen through the local cricket ranks after starting with Phil Crofts' Kanga cricket sessions.

Nathan is a Sawtell junior, but spent the 2003-04 season with Diggers before returning to his old club this summer.

"Nathan is an out and out right arm quick," said Hedditch, who has also coached the young bowler in Coffs Harbour representative sides.
