Wright wins handicap

THE Teschner Bikes race was Coffs Harbour Triathlon Club's third race for the season and was held yesterday in near perfect conditions. The event was conducted over the clubs standard distance and attracted 46 competitors which was an excellent turn out considering many members were absent racing away at Port Macquarie in the Half Ironman event. Yesterday's event saw first place on handicap taken out by Robert Wright closely followed by John Hossack who is slowly returning to a good fitness level and third place went to Peter Hunter. The first female home was Bev Lerm who continues to improve each week. Net results again saw James Moncada blitz the field in a quick time of 62.36 and he was closely followed by Glen Price who thanks to some good off season training is now showing some very good form and looks set to be a regular top three finisher for this season. Third fastest on the day was the consistent Neil Charles who showed great form having the fastest swim time split for the day. Mellisa Bulloch was the fastest female and clocked again the fastest run leg of all racers on the day, a very quick 23.32. She was followed by Kate Marsden with an improved bike leg and third home in the females was Lyndal Green with a quick swim split of 8.58, being the fourth fastest on the day overall. Tom Richter placed seventh overall on the day but may have faired better by not have had to do an extra run leg to the car after the swim transition to retrieve a forgotten helmet. Although conditions on the day were perfect, most competitors had to run the gauntlet of Mrs Lloyd's sharp witted tong through transition which made focus extremely difficult for those that are easily distracted. Congratulation to Lyn Fulton who represented Coffs Harbour at the recent Hawaii Ironman where she preformed fantastically achieving second place in her age category and finishing in under 12 hours at this tough event. The club's next event will be held on 6 November at the Yacht club Car park. Registration is set for 6.15am with a race start at 6.45am.
