Woman hit and killed by her own car

AN elderly woman died after being struck by her own vehicle in Coffs Harbour on Saturday.

Police said Nancy McGannon, 78, of Toormina, had pulled the blue Ford sedan she was driving into a parking space on Harbour Drive around 9.30am.

While she was still in the vehicle it reversed shaply and the woman was ejected through the open door and onto the roadway.

McGannon was struck by the vehicle, which stopped after colliding with the gutter.

A number of employees from a nearby business helped the seriously injured woman until ambulance officers arrived at the scene.

She was taken to Coffs Harbour Health Campus suffering extensive head and internal injuries, but died shortly after 11am.

Inquiries into the incident are continuing, with police officers preparing a report for the information of the Coroner.
