Vote 1 for Williams

IS local surfer Madison Williams the next big thing?

According to surfing magazine Waves, he just might be and Coffs Coast residents have the chance to put the Williams name on the surfing map.

Featured in the current edition of the magazine, the 18 year-old has been selected as one of eight finalists for the Black Knight Award to find Australia's next big freesurfer.

Williams radical style on the waves follows in the footsteps of great freesurfers before him like Koby Abberton, Rasta, Asher Pacey and Wade Goodall.

Over the next four months, people are asked to vote via the internet which of the eight finalists is worthy of the award.

If Williams receives the most votes, then he not only wins the title but also gets to be the star of the Black Knight DVD to be released by Waves in March 2008.

Those that want to place a vote for Madison Williams need to go online at, watch the footage of the eight finalists and vote. It's that simple.

Not only does a vote give Williams a greater chance of winning the Waves title, every person who registers and votes also has a chance of winning as they go into a draw to win $1000 from Canvas or one of eight surfboards.

Entry is open to Australian residents but unlike Big Brother or Australian Idol, votes are restricted to one entry per person per month for four months.

As well as being a very good freesurfer, Madison is a successful competitive surfer having recently finished eighth in the Association of Professionals Australasian Junior Series.

This great result has earned Williams entry into the Von Zipper Trials of the Billabong World Junior Titles to be held in Sydney in January.

In three weeks time, Williams will be off to Hawaii for a month to get more video footage, do some promotional work for his sponsors as well as fine tune his surfing in the classic waves of the North Shore Hawaii.
