Ulong community effort pays off

ABOUT 100 people enjoyed an afternoon at the new Ulong RSL, which was put on to thank those who helped with the club's rebuilding after it was completely destroyed in a fire in May, 2003.

After the fire, the community rallied behind the club to raise funds and help with the rebuilding efforts.

Generous time, machinery and monetary donations started with the demolition and site excavation, to timber cutting and milling, right through to lightfittings and furniture, as well as regular community working bees.

Ulong RSL secretary manager Todd Kadwell estimated that this community spirit saved the club about $250,000.

After nearly two years of operating from the Ulong Community Hall, the new Ulong RSL will hold its grand opening on Saturday, April 16, with entertainment and fun for all. Details will be provided closer to the date.
