Toormina High through to northern final

TOORMINA High's under 15 rugby league team advanced to the northern final of the Country Cup competition with two hard-fought wins against Port Macquarie's St Josephs High 20-12 and Taree high 22-12.

To earn the right to play these teams, Toormina had earlier defeated Orara High 22-4, John Paul College 22-6 and Coffs High 28-12.

The boys in the team all play for Sawtell in the Group 2 competition and are enjoying another successful season at club level after being Premiers in the under 14 division 2004.

The boys have been playing with real determination throughout their run with their defensive efforts a real highlight.

Toormina have shown themselves to be adaptable using their skills they've learnt together to good effect.

The team has played some very tough football and if they're successful in the northern final against their as yet unknown opponents they will head to Dubbo next month to play in the state finals.

They have been well led by Dale Middleton at fullback while Peter Ferguson, Matt Smith and Danny Klaason have been dominating in the forwards.

Will Close has shown touches of brilliance at half, Corey Wickens has been consistently excellent at five-eighth and Jason McGrady in the centres has impressed everybody as a player of the future.
